Broad prospects for international trade and investment cooperation between China and Ukraine in phar

According to reports, the pharmaceutical market in Ukraine has a scale of 2 billion US dollars, with over 80% of its products relying on imports. At present, 220 pharmaceutical companies in Ukraine have registered and produced 4000 types of pharmaceutical products, including more than 30 original plant extracts. According to data from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, in 2022, the international trade of China Ukraine pharmaceuticals reached 220 million US dollars. The construction of China Ukraine Pharmaceutical City and China Ukraine Pharmaceutical Technology City has laid a good foundation for pharmaceutical cooperation between the two countries.

On March 27th, the China Uzbekistan Pharmaceutical Cooperation and Development Forum, jointly organized by the Medical Insurance Chamber of Commerce and the Pharmaceutical Development Bureau of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, was held in Beijing. At the meeting, the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement between the China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Medical and Health Products and the Uzbekistan Pharmaceutical Development Bureau" was signed. Representatives from both sides had in-depth exchanges on public market procurement, localized drug production, construction of pharmaceutical industrial parks, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), GSP (Product Supply Practice) certification, and clinical trial implementation.  

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Turtikulova, pointed out that in the past five years, Uzbekistan has added 177 new pharmaceutical investment projects, with a total investment of over 500 million US dollars, and pharmaceutical production capacity has significantly increased. In recent years, the Ukrainian government has strongly supported the development of the pharmaceutical and health industry, introducing a series of preferential policies related to registration, clinical practice, import taxes, and so on. Turtikulova stated that Uzbekistan China has a long history of friendly exchanges and China is Uzbekistan's strategic partner. During the epidemic, Ukraine has cooperated with Chinese enterprises and research institutions in the fields of vaccines and antiviral drugs and achieved significant results. It is hoped that in the future, more practical cooperation can be carried out with Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises to jointly create a platform for pharmaceutical and biotechnology cooperation between the two countries, helping both sides achieve economic growth and improve population health.

To encourage localized production of drugs, the Ukrainian government has introduced many supportive policies, such as establishing a legal protection mechanism for investors, favoring localized production enterprises in bidding, setting up multiple free trade zones and pharmaceutical parks nationwide, and recognizing drug registration standards with 20 countries and international organizations. Echmuladov, Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Development Bureau of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, said that Uzbekistan has obvious regional advantages and can radiate other "the Belt and Road" countries. Pharmaceutical products produced in Uzbekistan can enjoy preferential support in transportation, registration, temporary bed and other aspects when sold to other Central Asian countries. He welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Ukraine, carry out localized production with local partners, and further promote the in-depth development of international trade industry cooperation between Ukraine and China in the pharmaceutical industry.

The cooperation between the pharmaceutical industry of the two countries is also actively advancing. Over the years, while importing liquorice and other Chinese medicinal materials from Uzbekistan, General technology Chinese Medicine has also provided high-quality drugs and equipment to Ukrainian partners, and has built the largest glove production line in Uzbekistan, contributing China's strength to the local people to overcome the epidemic. Li Yadong, secretary and chairman of General technology China Pharmaceutical Party Committee, said that the company will continue to carry out in-depth and practical cooperation with Uzbekistan in the fields of drugs, medical devices, medical information sharing, and jointly build a platform for cooperation in production, learning, research, and use, and create a new benchmark for cooperation in the pharmaceutical and health industry under the "the Belt and Road" initiative of international trade.

In order to further promote the deepening of China Ukraine pharmaceutical and health cooperation, Zhou Hui, the President of the Pharmaceutical Chamber of Commerce, called on both sides to jointly promote the development and growth of the alliance, strengthen practical cooperation such as regulatory and access policy communication, trade and investment promotion, information exchange and sharing, project docking, etc., do a good job in communication and coordination of Uzbekistan pharmaceutical exhibitions, actively promote the exchange of enterprises, talents, and technology between both sides, and suggest that enterprises focus on plant extracts Cooperation in localized production, technology transfer, clinical research, and other aspects will promote the early implementation of new cooperation projects, and promote new development of pharmaceutical and health cooperation between the two countries.

Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce of China, as the leading unit of the Chinese side, the Medical Insurance Chamber of Commerce, along with the five leading units of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, the Health Development Center of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Tajikistan, the Pharmaceutical Industry Corporation of Turkmenistan, and the Pharmaceutical Development Bureau of Uzbekistan, established the "China Central Asia Health Industry Alliance" during the 5th China International Import and Export Fair. This forum is one of the key tasks of the alliance for the year. This year, in addition to continuing to hold conferences, forums, cooperation and docking activities, the Soyuz programme plans to organize activities to promote international trade and investment in medicine in Central Asian countries in the second half of the year.
