China's international trade in medical devices has developed steadily

2022-11-15

In recent years, with the development of domestic medical device manufacturing industry and the impact of the COVID-19, China's medical device industry has ushered in a golden age of development, and the export volume of domestic medical device products and in vitro diagnostic products has increased. The relevant person in charge of the China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products said that in the future, the Chinese medical device industry will continue to strengthen technological innovation, layout the IVD market, promote international industrial cooperation, and continue to increase the market share of international trade.

Since the epidemic, China's medical device industry has attracted the attention of the international market. As the demand for "home economy" continues to increase, the world has increased its dependence on China's household medical device products, and the international trade market share of China's household medical device products has gradually expanded. The export of household oxygen generators, blood oximeters, massage appliances and other products continued to grow, especially in the massage and health care appliance industry. Last year, the export amount hit a new record high. Relevant statistics show that in 2021, the export volume of China's massage and health care appliances will reach 64.12 billion US dollars, with a year-on-year growth of 47.44% and a year-on-year growth rate of 4.85 percentage points. The export volume and price will rise at the same time. The United States, South Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan are the major exporters of Chinese massage health care appliances, showing a strong demand for Chinese massage health care appliances. The above person in charge believes that the success of China's massage health care appliance export fully proves that China's massage health care appliance industry has accumulated strong technical strength and resilience with years of continuous innovation and research; It has been highly recognized in the international trade market in terms of R&D, manufacturing, customer communication and supply chain management capabilities.

In addition to the growth in the export of household medical devices, in vitro diagnostic products represented by COVID-19 Test are still in strong demand after the normalization of the global epidemic, and their export will continue to maintain a rapid growth in 2021. According to the statistics of the China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, in 2021, China's main diagnostic reagents were exported to a total of 13.093 billion dollars, a year-on-year increase of 135.37%. Antigen products (including self-test) became the main export force of COVID-19 reagents, and Germany, Britain, Austria, the United States and France became the top five markets for in vitro diagnostic reagents exports last year.

The above person in charge believes that the prospect of IVD is still good and the market space is still huge from the perspective of the global IVD market size. It is estimated that the global IVD market size will exceed US $74.6 billion (excluding COVID-19) in 2022, and the global POCT market size is expected to exceed US $30 billion; It is estimated that the global immunization market space will reach US $21.1 billion in 2022, with an annual growth rate of 4.1%. Among them, the central IVD immunization (Lab based) will reach US $9.4 billion, with 87% of its share in North America, Eastern Europe and Japan, and other markets with strong growth in China, India, Brazil, etc; POCT professional immunization will reach 3.5 billion dollars (pregnancy, infectious diseases, cardiac standard, saccharification, FOB, etc.). Then, in the face of such a big market opportunity, if Chinese medical device enterprises want to occupy a place in the international trade market, they must abandon the domestic homogenization and low price competition, benchmark multinational enterprises, select the track, and enterprises with strong strength should also move forward in international industrial cooperation.
