6.7% increase! According to customs data, Vietnam's furniture export will reach 15.8 billion US

2023-02-27

According to Vietnamese customs data, Vietnam's timber and wood products exports are expected to reach 15.8 billion US dollars in 2022, up 6.7% year on year. At the same time, customs data showed that Vietnam's imports of wood and wood products increased by 4.1% to 2.8 billion US dollars. The trade surplus is expected to be $14.1 billion, up 6.5% from last year.

In the past three years, the epidemic and the global value-added turbulence have had a serious impact on the furniture supply chain. However, under the background of shortage of raw material supply, rising logistics costs and labor shortage, the export data of Vietnam's furniture industry still maintains a growth trend. According to customs data, the export growth of timber and wood products projects has been increasing for more than 20 years, from US $220 million in 2000 to US $15.8 billion in 2022, which is also a growth that is not seen in all industries in Vietnam. Pei Zhengyi, director of the General Administration of Forestry of Vietnam, said that customs data showed that since 2022, the global timber market has been affected by the epidemic and the Russian-Uzbekistan incident. Compared with the performance of the first half of the year, the Vietnamese timber market in the second half of the year has passed a difficult time.

The intensification of global inflation has had a negative impact on the orders of Vietnam's furniture industry in the last few months of 2022, putting export enterprises in a critical position. However, with the joint efforts of enterprises in the industry, the industry has gradually approached the goal set at the beginning of 2022. According to customs data, Vietnam's export value of wood and wood products in the first 11 months of 2022 was about 14.6 billion US dollars, up 9% year on year. In November, the export volume of a single month was US $1.1 billion, down 14.6% year on year. Exports fell further in December, leading to a decline in annual growth to 6.7%.

It is worth mentioning that over the past year, the EU, the United States, China, Japan and South Korea have become Vietnam's main export markets with an export value of more than US $155, accounting for more than 90% of the total. With the achievements made in 2022, Pei Zhengyi said that the forestry output value will increase by 5-5.5% to 17.5 billion US dollars in 2023.
