Siberian timber traders propose to cancel the export barriers of international timber trade

2023-03-08

As we all know, in Europe and the United States, international trade export restrictions have been imposed on Russian timber and other industries, and Central Asian countries have become the main market for Russian timber traders. However, the route from Russia to Central Asian countries is restricted, resulting in a significant increase in the transportation costs of Russian timber traders.

Recently, the "interregional association" of the Siberian agreement put forward a long-term plan for the development of international and foreign economic relations in the Siberian region at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum. It is a priority for Siberia and the entire Russian Federation to eliminate infrastructure restrictions in the changing commodity logistics, improve the competitiveness of producers through targeted support measures, and eliminate unnecessary international trade barriers.

Vasili Potemkin, the deputy governor in charge of investment policy and property relations in Tomsk region, said that further measures were needed to encourage the export of deep wood products to the international trade of Central Asian countries.

Russian timber enterprises are deeply troubled by the sanctions imposed by European and American countries. Previously, in order to recover the international trade export volume decreased due to the sanctions, Pavel Chashchin, head of Roslesinforg, the Russian forest management department, suggested that timber processing companies in the northwest should consider moving to Siberia and the Far East.

However, this is not easy for timber producers in the northwest, which requires transportation of production equipment, investigation and evaluation of environmental conditions, and re-selection of sites. Timber producers who have experienced serious difficulties can not bear such a move.

Therefore, the proposal put forward by Siberian timber traders to eliminate the export barriers to international timber trade will greatly facilitate the timber transportation in all regions of the Russian Federation and further reduce the time and cost of timber transportation.
