On April 12, the "Kaigao" ship loaded with New Zealand radiata pine was unloaded at Rizhao Port, Shandong Port, and then shipped to Wuwei Yuandun Station, Gansu Province by rail. This is the first logistics breakthrough for Shandong Port to transport imported logs of international trade to the western region of China by sea rail intermodal transportation. It is also a heavy measure for Shandong Port Rizhao Port and Shandong Port Logistics Group "brothers" to work together to serve the "the Belt and Road" initiative of international trade.

China is the world's largest timber importer, and the western region is mainly transported by the international railway intermodal trains along the "the Belt and Road". Since this year, due to the restrictions on the export of Russian timber in international trade, the overland transport of timber has been affected, leading to the reduction of raw materials sources for wood processing enterprises in western China. As the largest log unloading port in China, Rizhao Port United Logistics Group has conducted multiple investigations into the timber market in the central and western regions of China, fully leveraging port advantages, actively expanding the log sea rail intermodal transportation mode, and actively serving the development of international trade and economy in the western region.

Recently, Rizhao Port signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Gansu (Wuwei) International Land Port, and joined hands with the logistics group to establish a log multimodal transport special team. Following the concept of "opening trains, building land ports, and expanding cargo sources", it connects with the railway arteries such as Longhai and Xinshi, develops a wood sea rail intermodal transport network, and truly moves the "entrance" of the western timber industry to the "doorstep".

Relying on the integrated reform and development platform of Shandong Port, Rizhao Port, in conjunction with Logistics Group, actively collaborates with local governments, customs, Jinan Road Bureau, Shandong Expressway Pinglan Railway and other departments to create a new mode of timber land port operation, open up a new channel for "cross customs zone" direct transportation, and achieve seamless connection between sea and rail intermodal transportation modes; Continuously optimize the sustainable development of the timber industry structure in the Lanshan region, cultivate a customer group suitable for the operation of new logistics channels, attract more timber traders to support the "Western Development" policy, and make the port radiate more widely and have a stronger agglomeration effect. At the same time, the logistics group has developed a personalized full process logistics solution that integrates agency procurement, shipping agency, shipping agency, and remote supervision to meet customer needs, reducing comprehensive logistics costs by about 20% for customers.

In the next step, Rizhao Port will join hands with the Logistics Group to tap into the development potential of rail sea intermodal transport, expand the scope of rail sea intermodal transport business, strengthen the driving force of the port for the western economy, and contribute to the development of the "the Belt and Road" in international trade.
