The structural characteristics of China's exported plywood products are significant. Customs data shows that overall, the export of hardwood plywood is dominant, with an average annual export volume of nearly ten million cubic meters in the past two years; Next is coniferous plywood, with an annual export volume of about one million cubic meters; The export volume of blockboard is higher than that of bamboo plywood and laminated veneer lumber.

According to customs data, in 2022, China exported 9.0267 million cubic meters of hardwood plywood, accounting for 84.62% of the total export volume; Exporting 1.1381 million cubic meters of coniferous plywood, accounting for 10.67%; According to customs data, 366800 cubic meters of exported blockboard, accounting for 3.44%; Export bamboo plywood of 105000 m3, accounting for 0.94%; Laminated veneer lumber exported is 34900 m3, accounting for 0.33%.

Customs data shows that compared to 2021, the overall export volume of plywood products in China decreased in 2022, mainly due to a decrease in the export volume of hardwood plywood, coniferous plywood, and blockboard. Although bamboo plywood exports have increased, their proportion is too small.

In the past two years, the export unit price of ordinary plywood in China has ranged from 400 to 500 US dollars/m3, and the export unit price of hardwood plywood is slightly higher than that of coniferous plywood. According to customs data, blockboard is the highest export unit price among plywood products, reaching 1398.63 US dollars/m3 in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 16.35%; The main export of bamboo plywood from China is the restructuring of bamboo flooring and container flooring. Although the export volume increased in 2022, the export unit price decreased from $944.27/m3 in 2021 to $784.89/m3 in 2022, a decrease of 16.88%. Through comparative analysis of the import and export of plywood products in China, we found that the export unit price of the other four categories of products was lower than the import unit price, except for the export unit price of laminated veneer lumber which was slightly higher than the import unit price, and even the export unit price of hardwood plywood was half of the import unit price.

There are two main reasons for the difference in import and export unit prices of hardwood plywood. Firstly, due to the mixed solid wood composite flooring in hardwood plywood, the proportion of solid wood composite flooring in imported hardwood plywood is large and the price is high; The exported hardwood plywood also contains solid wood composite flooring, but the proportion of plywood is large, resulting in a lower price. Secondly, the price of ordinary plywood exported from China is lower than that of imported ordinary plywood.
