According to customs data, the top six American hardwood varieties exported to India in 2022 are pecan (2581 cubic meters), white oak (3173 cubic meters), red oak (2334 cubic meters), and white wax tree (514 cubic meters). The increase in demand for hardwood from the United States in India, including walnut (214 cubic meters) and maple (428 cubic meters), is mainly due to the improvement of certification requirements and the impact of domestic wood quality. AHEC Regional Director Roderick Wiles said, "Indian furniture manufacturers have to find alternative hardwood varieties in the international market for use in the domestic furniture and interior markets, as well as for the re export of value-added products, However, due to the reduction in sawmill production and pest infestation, North American timber production will decrease this year, and India may need to increase imports of hardwood from other places at that time.
