According to import and export data, from January to March 2023, Russia's plywood exports to the United States decreased by 77% year-on-year to 39000 cubic meters. The export value decreased by 85% to 23.3 million US dollars. Import and export data shows that the average price of plywood has decreased by 33% to $603 per cubic meter.
Import and export data shows that in the first four months of 2023, the production of Russia's timber industry was 9.2 million cubic meters, a year-on-year decrease of 11.2%. Due to Western sanctions imposed on Russia for invading Ukraine, China has become the only major market for Russian timber producers.
Without exporting to Europe, sawmills in northwestern Russia have shifted their focus to conquering the Chinese market, where they face competition from sawmills in Siberia and the Far East.
