Since the beginning of this year, timber prices have experienced a wave of "roller coasters". After a few months of continuous increases, starting in late May, U.S. timber futures prices have fallen by 42% in one month. A few days ago, the reporter visited Xinminzhou Port, a single port with the largest import volume of domestic timber in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. It is understood that the port has been operating at full capacity since the beginning of this year.

Li Xiang, general manager of a Jiangsu Port Co., Ltd.: From January to June this year, the entire port handled 1.65 million cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of about 20%.

Zhuang Yibin, general manager of a timber company in Fujian: The price of eucalyptus is now 800-950 yuan/cubic meter, and it has dropped by 120-150 yuan/cubic meter at a higher level, but the arrival price is still 35% higher than the beginning of the year. We expect a sales cycle of 20-30 days. The current demand is still there, but it is currently in a traditional off-season, and the overall sales cycle is slowing down.

It is understood that from January to June 2021, the timber shipment volume of Xinminzhou Port reached 1.5311 million cubic meters, an increase of 15.8% year-on-year, and the yard inventory has also dropped to a historical low.
