The research organization International Timber Resources released the latest report. In the first half of the year, U.S. timber prices reached a record high, leading to a high demand for timber in the country. North American timber basically flows to the United States, and timber exports to China have been reduced by more than half.
The two largest timber exporters in Europe, Sweden and Germany, saw their timber exports also rise sharply. But exports to China have also fallen.
China's softwood imports in the first half of the year fell by 24%, the lowest in six years: among them, imports from the United States and Sweden fell significantly.
Canadian timber prices rose the most. From January to July this year, the price of Chinese timber imported from Canada rose by about 60%.
