European laminate flooring industry grows against the trend

The Association of European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF) released a survey result showing that in 2020, member companies of the Association sold a total of 459 million m2 of flooring, an increase of 2.74% year-on-year. In 2020, the world was negatively affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, especially during the spring period. Sales almost stagnated. Among them, the sales area of the US market was 38.1 million m2, a year-on-year increase of 28.1%. The sales area in the Canadian market was 11 million m2, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%. In the European market, wood flooring sales in Western Europe will be better in 2020, with a total sales volume of 225.7 million m2, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. As in 2019, the German market remains the strongest market in Europe, with sales of 52.7 million m2, an increase of 6.1% year-on-year. Although France and the United Kingdom both sold 37.1 million square meters of wood flooring, sales in the United Kingdom increased by 13.7% year-on-year in 2019, far higher than the 1.6% growth in France. Similar to the United Kingdom, sales in the Netherlands increased by 13.8% to 21.1 million m2. The only market in Western Europe with a decline in sales is Spain, with a sales area of 14.6 million m2, a year-on-year decrease of 12.8%.

In 2020, the sales volume in the Eastern European market remained stable, with a total sales area of 134.8 million m2, a decrease of 0.2% compared to 2019. As an Eastern European market, Russia will continue to expand its market size in 2020, with a sales area of 46.2 million m2, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%. The Polish market has a sales area of 29 million m2, a year-on-year decrease of 6.6%. Ukraine maintained its position as one of the three major markets in Eastern Europe with a sales area of 10.4 million m2 and a year-on-year growth of 1.1%. Romania’s sales volume was 9.6 million m2, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%, while Hungary’s sales increased by 11.7% year-on-year, with a sales area of 7.7 million m2. In 2020, the sales volume of wood flooring in Asia has fallen sharply, with a sales area of 25.1 million m2, compared to 2019 A year-on-year decrease of 11.9%. The sales area in Latin America was 14.1 million m2, a decrease of 10.1% year-on-year. The sales area in Australia and Oceania was 3.2 million m2, a decrease of 10.7% year-on-year. The sales area in Africa was 4.7 million m2, a decrease of 5.6% year-on-year.
