According to the estimates of the Vietnam Timber Association (Vifores), in the first five months of this year, the US market accounted for 60.4% of Vietnam's total exports of wood and wood products, becoming the largest export market for Vietnam's wood and products. This year, 68% of the international orders of enterprises came from the United States , among which cabinets and sofas are major exporters.
According to the analysis of Vietnamese furniture companies, the United States is in a period of strong recovery after the epidemic, and its purchasing power is still recovering. Statistics show that Vietnam has surpassed China in exporting wood products to the U.S. since 2020, and China has been the "king" of such products in the U.S. market for many years.
In 2020, Vietnam exported $7.4 billion worth of wooden furniture to the United States, up 31 percent from 2019, surpassing China's $7.33 billion export value and surpassing its import value in the same year. This level of exports from China is down 25% compared to 2019.
Du Chunli, chairman of the Vietnam Timber Association (Vifores), revealed that there are currently 5,580 wood production and processing companies in Vietnam, including 4,813 domestic companies, 767 foreign-funded companies, and 2,600 export companies.
Du Chunli said, "There are more than 500,000 wood processing practitioners in Vietnam, of which 55-60% are well-trained and stable workers. The per capita output value is 25,000 US dollars per year, an increase of 25% compared with 2015 and 2010 respectively. % and 47%.”
Du Chunli said that in 2021, Vietnam’s wood products exports to five major markets including the United States, Japan, China, the European Union and South Korea will total 14.27 billion US dollars, accounting for 90.4% of the total export value.
