According to the data released from January to May this year, Russia's shipments of timber and its products to China increased by 18.5%, while exports to the EU fell by 46%.
The Ural Customs Press Service said: Repositioning the export delivery of wood and its products to the East after the imposition of "restrictions" in the West.
Ural Customs said: “After the Western restrictions, Russian timber exports to EU countries fell by 46%, and most of the exports did not continue. At the same time, our timber exports to China increased by 18.5% to 101,000 cubic meter."
As of May 2022, the Ural Customs Administration has recorded a general decline in timber exports. The total number of timber declarations in the five months of this year is 613,400 m3, a decrease of 7% compared with last year. Meanwhile, the value of lumber increased by 13 percent to $117.8 million.
"This year, the structure of exports of wood and its products has changed significantly. In particular, exports of plywood fell by 60%, joinery and woodworking products fell by 38%, and particleboard fell by 20%.
Exports of some wood products (for example, wooden clothes hangers) increased by 30%. And a new export pattern emerged - 4,800 tons of veneer were exported to other countries," said Alexei Frolov, head of the Ural Customs Administration.
Since April this year, China and Russia have continued to increase the management of timber customs clearance, and began to consider increasing ports and trains to speed up the timber trade between the two countries, Russia's timber import and export trade will be able to steadily open a new chapter.
