The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade recently told local media that the Middle East, Asia and Latin American countries are expected to become promising export markets for Russian timber.
According to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Russian wood processing enterprises are actively adjusting the import and export logistics process, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russian Commercial Representative Offices abroad will provide assistance to Russian enterprises in opening up the market.
According to statistics from the Russian Federal Forestry Service, from January to May 2022, Russian timber exports reached 11.2 million cubic meters, an increase of 10%. Among them, nearly 70% were exported to China, Uzbekistan and other Asian countries friendly to Russia, with a total export volume of 7.8 million cubic meters, an increase of 13% year-on-year; the remaining 30% were exported to EU countries, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and the United States , the export volume to these countries was 3.27 million cubic meters, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year. Timber from Siberia and the Far East of Russia is mainly exported to China.
Statistics show that in the past 15 years, the main buyer of Russian timber has been China. From January to May 2022, China imported 5.24 million cubic meters of Russian timber, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%.
The Russian timber company mainly exports plank, beam, sawn wood (raw material for the production of plank) and wood for pulping to foreign countries.
