"Exports were 48.98 billion US dollars, a slight increase of 2.2% over the same period last year." A report from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Mechanical and Electrical Products shows that in the first five months, China's overall export of household electrical appliances increased slightly.
Among them, benefiting from the benefits brought about by the entry into force of RCEP, the ASEAN market has grown rapidly. At the same time, under the circumstance that some overseas countries have liberalized the epidemic control policies and the demand for households has weakened, the export of household appliances and small kitchen appliances has shown a trend of decreasing both volume and price.
As it will take time to digest the inventories of home appliances in major export markets, Zhou Nan, secretary general of the Household Appliances Branch of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, predicts that China's exports of home appliances will further decline in the third quarter, and may show signs of recovery in the fourth quarter.
Regional markets are mixed
The rise and fall of China's home appliance exports in various regional markets were mixed.
At present, Asia is still the largest export market of China's home appliance products. The cumulative export value in the first five months was 17.63 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%, but the growth rate was significantly lower than that of the same period last year.
Benefiting from the entry into force of RCEP, the export of Chinese household electrical appliances to the ASEAN market has grown rapidly. Data show that the growth rate of China's home appliance exports to the ASEAN market in the first five months was more than 15%. "In recent years, thanks to the characteristics of ASEAN's large population base, rapid economic growth and great potential for consumption of household appliances, China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation has continued to show a steady and positive trend. Despite the negative impact of the epidemic, with the With the recovery of the supply chain, the liberalization of epidemic control policies in some countries, and the entry into force of RCEP, China's exports of household electrical appliances to ASEAN have gradually recovered." Zhou Nan said.
The overall export situation of China to Oceania is stable and improving. In the first five months, China's exports of home appliances to Oceania reached US$1.31 billion, an increase of 18.5% year-on-year.
Europe has always been one of the key markets for China's home appliance exports. Affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and high inflation in European countries, in the first five months, China's home appliance exports to Europe amounted to US$12.76 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 2.9%. There are varying degrees of decline.
Affected by the high inflation in the United States, in the first five months, the export value of China's home appliance products to North America was 12.23 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%, but the growth rate dropped by nearly 70 percentage points compared with last year (74.4%). Affected by the global economic shock, the economies of Latin American countries have been declining since the second half of last year. During the same period, China's export of household electrical appliances to Latin America was 3.31 billion US dollars, and the year-on-year growth rate was significantly reduced from 77.1% last year to -4.5%.
In recent years, Chinese home appliance products have performed well in exports to Africa. In the first five months, China's exports of home appliances to Africa were US$1.37 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%. The growth rate dropped significantly compared with last year, but the exports to Egypt and South Africa, the top two trading partners of Africa, both maintained a steady growth of 5%. .
Both large and small home appliances are exported
Since the beginning of this year, under the influence of factors such as the relaxation of epidemic control in some overseas regions, the shrinking demand for home use and the gradual increase in outdoor gathering activities, the export volume of major appliances has declined. "Due to the rising prices of raw materials caused by the geographical conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the high cost of international shipping and logistics, the pressure on the cost side has led to a rise in the price of major electrical appliances. The price advantage of China's refrigerator and washing machine exports has gradually been replaced by Turkey, Poland and Mexico." Zhou Nan said.
Not only the export volume of major appliances has declined, but the export of household appliances and small kitchen appliances has also declined. Constrained by multiple factors such as the decline in demand for the "home economy" in Europe and the United States, the continued high inventory levels in the home appliance market in Europe and the United States, and the high inflation brought about by the geographical conflict between Russia and Ukraine, China's exports of household appliances and small kitchen appliances have shown a downturn in both volume and price since the beginning of this year. . Among them, the export volume of range hoods, electric water heaters and solar water heaters declined significantly.
"In the post-epidemic era, consumers in some countries and regions have gradually returned to normal life, and the impact of unsalable inventory of just-needed products such as air purifiers during the epidemic has gradually emerged, and the consumption demand for home-type household appliances has declined. And outdoor household appliances will be the focus of enterprises and the market, and they may play an important role in outdoor social and leisure application scenarios." Zhou Nan said that since the beginning of this year, the increase in travel and social interaction of consumers in Europe and the United States has promoted nursing care The demand for household appliances has increased, especially the export scale of hair dryers and other hairdressing appliances has grown rapidly. In countries that have not liberalized the control of the epidemic, the shutdown of the barber care industry and the continuous home office have reduced the demand for electric clippers and razors to a certain extent, and the export volume of both has decreased.
