35000 cubic meters of timber exported from Russia to other regions

According to the Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report, from January 2022, Russia has exported about 35500 cubic meters of forest products through Dagestan.

Among them, the regulatory authority said that other regions of Russia (Vologda, Irkutsk, Kirov and Sverdlovsk regions, Krasnoyarsk border region and Komi Republic) exported more than 500 batches of wood through the Republic of Dagestan, most of which are wood, wood packaging, parquet flooring and other wood products.

Siberian timber export crime reduced by one third

As we all know, Russia, as a major timber supplier, announced a ban on log exports at the beginning of this year, which led to many illegal timber trade incidents.

However, as the Russian General Administration of Customs and other relevant departments strictly enforce the law, and the laws and regulations on Russian timber export are further improved, timber smuggling in many Russian federal regions has decreased.

According to the observation of Huacheng's import and export data, from January to September this year, a total of 59 criminal cases of timber smuggling were filed in Siberia. According to the report of customs officials, this number has decreased by one third on an annual basis. The number of criminal cases of timber smuggling in other federal areas is: 19 cases were found in Krasnoyarsk; 14 cases of Irkutsk customs; Altay has 12 incidents.

Moreover, according to the Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report, since this year, the General Administration of Customs of the Russian Federation has successfully prevented more than 12000 illegal export incidents, among which the number of illegal timber smuggling detected has reached 150 million cubic meters.

Russia provides 70% coniferous wood to China

Russian timber has always been an important part of China's timber import. Since March, the timber trade between Russia and China has been closer. Experts pointed out that in the past seven months, Russia's timber supply to China has increased significantly, especially in the area of coniferous timber. According to customs data, in the first seven months of this year, China imported 6.5 million cubic meters of coniferous wood, of which nearly 70% came from Russia.

The main reasons for Russia to increase its exports of needle leaf timber to China are not only the reduction of supply to Europe, but also the changes in the payment system, as well as the replacement of the United States dollar by RMB as the largest foreign currency on the Russian exchange.

With the change of the global economy, the timber trade between Russia and China has become closer. The various tariff reduction policies implemented by the two sides in favor of timber import and export have also brought great convenience to the timber importers and exporters of the two countries.

As two major trading countries in the world, China and Russia will cooperate more closely in the future, especially China's demand for timber is so high, while Russia, as a major timber supplier, will be able to meet China's demand for timber to a certain extent, according to the observation of Huacheng's import and export data.
