According to customs data, from January to October 2022, China's exports of coated plates (strips) totaled 4.6106 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.14%. The export of coated sheet and strip in the central region increased significantly, while the export of coated sheet and strip in the northern region decreased significantly. In combination with the export data of coated sheet and strip, the author briefly analyzes the export situation of coated sheet and strip over the years:

1、 In October, the exports of coated plates and strips fell month on month compared with the same period last year

According to customs data, the export data of October 2022 will be released one after another. In October 2022, China's total exports of coated plates (strips) will be 381900 tons, a decrease of 4.51% month on month (MoM) and 20.99% year on year (YoY).

From January to October 2022, China's total exports of coated plates (strips) totaled 4.6106 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.14%. According to customs data, from January to October, only in July did the export of coated sheet and strip achieve a positive year-on-year growth. According to the monthly data, the export of coated sheet and strip has declined month on month for three consecutive months, which shows that the current situation of coated sheet and strip export is not optimistic.

2、 The export increment of coated plate and strip in the central region is obvious

From the provincial data, Shandong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu are still the top three, accounting for 63.77% of the total exports of coated sheet and strip. Among the top five provinces, the exports of coated sheet and strip declined from January to July, with a decline range of 11% to 29.78%.

It is worth noting that in 2022, the export of color coated strip in the central region will be outstanding. Jiangxi, Hunan and Hubei are among the top ten in import and export.

Among the top ten provinces in export, Hubei has the largest growth rate. According to customs data, the year-on-year growth rate from January to October was 621%. The export volume from January to October was 156,000 tons, compared with less than 30,000 in the same period last year. At the same time, Jiangxi ranked sixth with a year-on-year growth rate of 303%.

As one of the important provinces in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, Tianjin's exports have declined significantly, with a year-on-year drop of 55.16%, barely squeezing the top ten in imports and exports. The change in the export ranking of major provinces shows that the development potential of the central region is huge, and major steel mills and merchants engaged in export trade need to take it seriously.

According to the country specific data, the Philippines' export volume has grown steadily in the past three years, especially in 2022, becoming the country with the largest export volume of coated sheet and strip in China from January to October 2022. From 2020 to 2021, South Korea, the top exporter of coated sheet and strip in China, saw a significant decline in exports in 2022.

In 2021, the coated sheet and strip will be exported to South Korea for 498900 tons, while in 2020, the figure will be 920000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 45.78%. From January to October 2022, the top five countries in China's exports of coated sheet and strip are the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam. As of October, only the Philippines has exported more than 400000 tons, and the rest are less than 300000 tons.

According to the current data, only the Philippines among the top five export countries will achieve positive year-on-year growth in 2022, and other countries may have a certain decline.

3、 In 2022, the export of coated sheet and strip may have the largest decline in recent five years

Since 2014, China's exports of coated sheet and strip have exceeded 6 million tons. In 2016, the total export volume of coated sheet and strip was the highest in nearly 10 years, 7.5799 million tons. In the following two years, the export volume of coated sheet and strip declined significantly. In 2018, the export volume of coated sheet and strip in China was 6.04 million tons, but it also held the 6 million mark.

In recent three years, China's exports of coated sheet and strip have exceeded 6.4 million tons. From January to October, China's exports of coated sheet and strip totaled 4.61 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.44%. It is also understood that according to the actual order receiving situation of the steel plant, the data of November and December may be worse.

If the monthly export volume in the next two months is 450000 tons, the export of coated sheet and strip will only be 5.51 million tons in 2022, then the expected decline will be 14.57%, or the largest decline in the past five years.

At present, the situation at home and abroad is changing gradually. More and more enterprises are deploying color coated products, and the market competition is becoming increasingly fierce. The export volume of coated sheet and strip is basically more than 20% of the annual output of color coated sheet and coil, and the quality of export is also directly related to the overall consumption of color coated sheet and coil.

With the continuous development of the central region, the export volume of late coated sheet and strip may be more eye-catching, which deserves our attention. In terms of export countries, the top countries of China's coated sheet and strip exports are mainly East and Southeast Asian countries. However, in recent years, the export volume of major countries has also changed greatly, and specific changes should also be paid attention to.

The total export volume, according to customs data, is expected to be 5.51 million tons in 2022, with a year-on-year drop of more than 14%, or the largest drop in five years.
