"In the downturn of the market, the fair competition environment for subsidies and dumping imports is particularly important. American factories can't afford to lose sales due to Canada's unfair trade practices, which will endanger the vibrant forestry in the United States, and then affect the employment and community life of Americans." According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, the US timber industry initially promoted the measures of imposing anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Canadian cork timber in 2017. The American Timber Union said: "If Canada can prove that it is serious about the negotiations, we will still be open to the new U.S. – Canada softwood lumber trade agreement."
