Due to the shortage of funds and raw materials, together with the global epidemic, the superimposed inflation intensifies, the cost of timber production and transportation increases, but the market demand is very low. Similarly, timber processing and international trade exports are restricted.
In addition, the number of orders in the second half of the year was reduced, and many timber enterprises had to cut their labor and production. The economy of the industry was also more or less hit. In response, Do Swan Lap, president of Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association, said that 2022 was the most difficult year for Vietnam's timber industry.
However, in such a difficult year, Vietnam's timber industry still achieved US $16.9 billion in international trade exports, an increase of 6% compared with 2021. Similarly, the international trade export of wood and wood products will slow down in 2022, and the industry is expected to recover in the first quarter of this year, while the supply will also start to grow positively in the second quarter.
In order to achieve the goal of increasing forestry output value by 5% - 5.5% to US $17.5 billion in 2023, Vietnam will continue to reduce the import of timber international trade, use science and technology to improve labor productivity, improve domestic production competitiveness and export competitiveness, accelerate digital transformation, reduce production costs, and expand the international trade market.
