According to the latest data from the Association of American Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), monthly tractor sales in the U.S. and Canada fell in June 2022, while both harvester sales increased.
Compared to 2021, total U.S. tractor sales fell 8.2% in June, while self-propelled combine sales rose 25.3% to 629 units. Two-wheel-drive tractors over 100 horsepower were the only category to post growth for the fourth straight month, up 9.6 percent.
Sales of tractors between 40 and 100 horsepower were down 7.2 percent, and the category below 40 horsepower was down 10.2 percent. Four-wheel-drive tractors fell just 3 percent this month. Year-to-date, total U.S. tractor sales are down 13.4%, while combine harvester sales figures have improved and are now down 5.5% year over year.
In Canada, while sales of two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive tractors of 40-100 horsepower increased by 1.8% and 46.4%, respectively, overall tractor sales in June fell by 5%, of which sales of tractors above 100 horsepower fell by 11.1%. %.
Combine harvester sales rose 35.1 percent to 154 units. Year-to-date, tractor sales in Canada are down 7.9 per cent and harvester sales are down 15.5 per cent.
While ongoing supply chain issues hampered tractor sales, combine harvesters showed an uptick this month, pushing the two countries' combined June sales at or above the five-year average.
