On July 28, the "R&D and Application of Innovative Products Using Bamboo instead of Plastic" was launched in Beijing. The project is a specific measure taken by the International Bamboo and Rattan Center and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization to implement the list of outcomes of the Global Development High-level Dialogue. It aims to promote the use of bamboo instead of plastics, reduce plastic pollution and address climate change.

Focusing on the goal of "replacing plastic with bamboo", the project is carried out from three aspects: the original utilization of bamboo, the utilization of bamboo fiber, and the utilization of bamboo pulp, and conducts alternative research and development for typical plastic products in the daily industry, engineering and medical fields. The project fully exploits the self-body characteristics of bamboo, breaks through the traditional craftsmanship, and develops products such as bamboo straws, bamboo winding and molded special-shaped engineering components, and bamboo pulp molded embedding boxes.

At the kick-off meeting, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and other relevant departments said that the promotion of using bamboo instead of plastic is of great significance and has great potential, which will help the project's scientific and technological research and development, financial guarantee, international Support for promotion, etc. Representatives at the meeting conducted discussions on the realization path, key technologies, key products, and market promotion of using bamboo instead of plastic, and put forward suggestions on the global development and promotion of using bamboo instead of plastic. It is recommended to increase policy support to guide the overall planning, technological transformation, and industrial layout of "replacing plastic with bamboo"; increase scientific and technological innovation and research and development efforts, set up special and conditional platforms for national science and technology plans, and improve the ability to transfer and transform independent innovation achievements; use a variety of The potential and value of "replacing plastic with bamboo" will be promoted in an all-round way through various methods, channels and platforms, and public awareness will be raised.

The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization will vigorously promote the use of bamboo instead of plastic in each member state, select member countries to carry out the pilot project of using bamboo instead of plastic, help member countries to carry out market analysis, policy formulation, technology transfer, etc. The commodity code of bamboo substitute plastics promotes the development of international trade of bamboo substitute plastic products.
