Iraq Relaxs Import Restrictions on International Fertilizer Trade

On March 6th, the Iraqi Cabinet approved the following decision regarding the import of urea and DAP (diammonium phosphate) fertilizers for international trade:

1. Cancel the international trade import licenses for urea and diammonium phosphate.

2. Allow private and mixed sector companies, licensed agricultural offices, and the General Alliance of Agricultural Associations to import urea and DAP fertilizers through international trade without an international trade import license.

3. Allow urea and DAP fertilizers to enter through designated border ports (Trebil, Zurbatiya, Umm Qasr, Nineveh Dam, and Darman in Kirkuk) in accordance with applicable procedures.

4. The competent department shall conduct chemical and radiological inspections of imported fertilizers for international trade within 48 hours at the border port.

5. Maintain the procedures for the Joint Operations Command and National Security Council to transfer fertilizers from all border crossings and checkpoints to warehouses.

6. The national security advisor will coordinate with relevant authorities to establish a mechanism for regulating the storage of fertilizers and supervising their distribution.
