The Uganda Kingfisher epc3 EPC project undertaken by Chinese enterprises officially started on May 30. After the project is completed and put into operation, it will help Uganda become an important crude oil producer in East Africa, bring considerable economic benefits to Uganda and even East Africa, and promote the rapid development of local social economy.
Uganda Kingfisher oil field is located in the west of the Great Rift Valley and the south of Albert basin. It was discovered in the Albert Lake area in western Uganda in 2006. It is the first commercial oil field discovered in Uganda, covering an area of about 32.3 square kilometers. The oilfield is jointly invested and developed by CNOOC and total. CNOOC Uganda Co., Ltd. is the operator of Kingfisher oilfield. CNOOC engineering and CNPC engineering construction in Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone are the general contractor of epc3 package for surface engineering construction of the project. The construction content of the project includes 1 central crude oil processing station (peak output of 40000 barrels per day), 4 well pads and supporting auxiliary facilities. The construction period of the project is 36 months, and it is expected to be put into operation at the beginning of 2025.
Uganda Kingfisher epc3 EPC project is an important achievement in deepening China Africa cooperation, and is of great significance in promoting the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" initiative and international energy cooperation. The project adopts the localization construction scheme, which will not only provide local jobs in Uganda, but also further help the local oil and gas personnel training and vocational skills improvement, and bring new development opportunities to Uganda, whose main economic source is traditional agriculture and animal husbandry.
