According to reports, the products involved in the ban include balloon plastic sticks, plastic flags, candy bars, ice cream sticks, decorative polystyrene, plastic cups and plates, plastic cutlery and spoons and other tableware and straws. India's Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change stated that the ban will only succeed if all stakeholders effectively participate, act in concert, and the public actively cooperates.

According to reports, India generates about 3.5 million tons of plastic waste every year, and the amount of plastic waste per capita has almost doubled in the past five years.
