CJ Bio and Accor, a global hotel chain, jointly develop PHA hotel supplies

On August 4, CJ BIO announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the global hotel chain Accor to start developing hotel supplies made from PHA. Through this agreement, the two companies will work together to replace all single-use plastics provided to guests at Accor hotels with PHA. This will help the hotel meet its commitment to phase out single-use plastic items by the end of 2022.

Founded in France in 1967, Accor operates more than 5,000 hotels in 110 countries around the world. Through the initial agreement, Accor and CJ Bio will replace the plastic products used by Accor's hotel chain in South Korea with PHA products, including cups, plastic bags, combs, stationery and various convenience containers. The two organizations will then expand the agreement to hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, with the aim of promoting the use of PHA globally if positive results are achieved.

CJ Bio is a pioneer in the development of PHA and is the world's first and only producer of amorphous PHA that is TUV OK certified for industrial and household composting, soil biodegradation and marine biodegradation. It's considered "home compostable," which means it doesn't require specialized equipment or high temperatures to degrade completely.

CJ Bio has started producing amorphous PHA at its manufacturing facility in Pasuruan, Indonesia, and plans to increase production to meet anticipated demand. Branded PHACT® Marine Biodegradable Polymer, CJ Bio's amorphous PHA is a softer, more elastic version of PHA with a fundamentally different approach to the crystalline or semi-crystalline forms that currently dominate the PHA market. performance characteristics.
