According to the import and export data of Gladstone Port in Queensland, in October 2022, the coal export volume of Gladstone Port will be 5.254 million tons, an increase of 21.2% month on month and a decrease of 0.7% year on year. From January to October, the coal export volume of Glaston Port was 51.488 million tons, down 10.8% year on year.
The coal export of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia's main export of steam coal, has been operating at a low level since this year. Affected by rainstorm and flood in October, the coal export decreased by nearly 30% compared with the same period last year. The latest import and export data of the port shows that the coal export volume of Newcastle Port in October was 10082000 tons, a slight increase of 0.2% month on month, but a decrease of 29.25% year on year. From January to October, Newcastle Port's coal exports totaled 113 million tons, down 13.9% year on year.
Steam coal export increased by 10% month on month in October
According to CoalMint's shipping import and export data, in October, 14 million tons of Australian thermal coal were exported, up 10% month on month.
Due to the continuous decline in Australian coal prices, the FOB price of NAR grade coal with high calorific value of 6000 kcal/kg in October has dropped below 373 US dollars/ton, with a month on month decline of more than 15%. The decline in prices has attracted interest from some Asian buyers. In October, Australia's coal export shipments to a few Asian countries and regions, such as South Korea, Vietnam and Taiwan, increased, while exports to major buyers, such as Japan and India, declined due to weak demand. In October, the amount of steam coal sent to Japan was still at most 6.6 million tons, down 3% month on month; The second is to ship 2.4 million tons to Taiwan, China and 1.7 million tons to South Korea, up 16% and 67% month on month respectively. Over the same period, the export shipment to India was 300000 tons, down 67% month on month; 700000 tons were exported to Vietnam, 4.2 times higher than the previous month; Exports to Thailand and Malaysia were 400000 tons and 500000 tons respectively, down 14% month on month.
At the same time, due to the mild climate in Europe and sufficient coal and natural gas stocks, Australia's coal exports to Europe have been suppressed to a certain extent. In October, Australia's coal exports to Poland fell by 62% month on month, and its exports to the Netherlands and Italy also declined.
