2023-04-23

Given the improvement of the epidemic in China, it is possible to import kraft paper from India again. Recently, Indian manufacturers and waste paper suppliers have been affected by a significant decline in kraft paper exports. According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, in 2022, the cost of recycled paper decreased to the lowest, ranging from 17 rupees to 19 rupees per kilogram.

Mr. Naresh Singhal, Chairman of the Indian Waste Paper Trade Association (IRPTA), said, "With the improvement of weather conditions, the market trend of demand for finished kraft paper and waste paper indicates the sales direction of kraft paper after February 6th

Mr. Singhal also stated that compared to the orders in December 2022, Indian kraft paper mills, especially those from Gujarat and southern India, are expected to export to China at higher prices.

According to Fastmarkets' Pulp and Paper Week (P&PW) price survey and market report on January 18th, demand for waste corrugated cardboard boxes (OCC) increased in January due to Southeast Asian recycled pulp mills seeking more paper fibers at the beginning of the year. However, the net CIF price of recycled brown pulp (RBP) remained at 340 US dollars per ton for three consecutive months. Supply meets market demand, Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report.

Some sellers claim that the transaction price of recycled brown pulp in January was relatively high, with a slight increase in the CIF price for China to 360-340 US dollars per ton. However, most sellers stated that the CIF price for China remains unchanged at $340 per ton.

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, on January 1st, China lowered import taxes on 1020 goods, including 67 types of paper and paper processing products. This includes corrugated paper, recycled cardboard, raw and recycled cardboard boxes, as well as coated and uncoated chemical pulp paper. China has decided to waive the standard most favored nation (MFN) tariff of 5-6% on these levels of imported products before the end of this year.

The Chinese Ministry of Finance has stated that tariff reductions will increase supply and help China's industrial and supply chains.

"In the past 20 days, the price of kraft paper recycled in northern India has increased by about 2500 rupees per ton, especially in western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. At the same time, the price of finished kraft paper has increased by 3 rupees per kilogram. On January 10, 17 and 24, kraft paper mills increased the price of finished paper by 1 rupee per kilogram, a total increase of 3 rupees, Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation reported.

The kraft paper factory has once again announced an increase of 1 rupee per kilogram on January 31, 2023. The price of kraft paper waste paper recycled by paper mills in Bangalore and surrounding areas is currently 17 rupees per kilogram.

Mr. Singhal added, "As you know, the price of imported waste cardboard continues to rise. I would also like to share some information from members of our association that the price of imported European waste cardboard with a quality of 95/5 seems to be about 15 US dollars higher than before.

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, buyers and sellers of Recycled Brown Pulp (RBP) have told Pulp and Paper Week (P&PW) that business in Southeast Asian countries is "better" and is expected to return to China after several months of unblocking. With the lifting of restrictions, the economy is expected to recover again.
