From January to August, Brazil imported 15 million US dollars in shoe uppers, soles, heels and insoles, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%.
Arrodo Ferreira, executive chairman of the Brazilian Footwear Industry Association, said that after the epidemic, the international shoe product market led by the United States is gradually recovering. These recovered shoe product markets are the main export destinations of Brazilian footwear products. . Compared with before the epidemic, the United States' imports of footwear products from Brazil increased by 14%; compared with 2019, Brazil's exports of footwear products to the United States maintained a growth trend for six consecutive months.
As the main destination of Brazilian footwear products, from January to August this year, Brazil exported 9.13 million pairs of footwear products to the United States, accounting for 12.14% of the total export volume, a year-on-year increase of 55%, and the export value was 133 million, accounting for the total export value. 24.63%, a year-on-year increase of 40%. Brazil's second largest export destination Argentina exported 7.76 million pairs, accounting for 10.32%, an increase of 84.4% year-on-year, and the export value was 69.23 million US dollars, an increase of 59.8% year-on-year; Brazil exported 4.38 million pairs of footwear products to France, accounting for 5.82%. The amount was 39.23 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%.
Brazil's footwear exports increased, and imports were also growing. In August, Brazil imported 1.78 million pairs of footwear products, an increase of 35.7% year-on-year, and imports amounted to US$26.24 million, an increase of 12.4% year-on-year. Among them, Brazil imported 430,400 pairs of footwear products from China, an increase of 167.3% year-on-year, accounting for 24.18% of the total, and the import value was US$2.42 million, an increase of 21.8% year-on-year, accounting for 9.22% of the total value.
This year, Brazil's main importer of footwear products is Vietnam, and Brazil's third largest source of imports is China. Due to the impact of the epidemic in Southeast Asia, Brazil's imports from Vietnam and Indonesia have significantly decreased year-on-year. From January to August, Brazil imported 6.14 million pairs of shoes from Vietnam, a year-on-year decrease of 12.9%, and the amount was US$122 million, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%; Brazil imported 1.77 million pairs of shoes from Indonesia, a year-on-year decrease of 18.2%, and the amount was US$32.72 million, a year-on-year decrease of 7.1 %.
However, Ferreira said that “due to the outbreak of the new wave of the epidemic, the import volume of Brazil’s third largest export destination of footwear, France and other European countries is decreasing; therefore, the prospects for the full recovery of the Brazilian footwear industry are still uncertain.”
