A few days ago, the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) released the "Guidelines for the Recyclability of Corrugated Packaging".

To promote sustainability in packaging, the guide provides industry with a practical set of options for recycling paper and cardboard to ensure optimal use of natural resources and minimise environmental impact.

A circular economy requires recycling, keeping materials in circulation, and minimizing waste of resources. Paper and cardboard is a sustainable, recyclable and environmentally friendly packaging. In the practice of recycling, the packaged products are collected, classified, and finally reprocessed.

Paper and cardboard recycling in the EU is a success story, with over 83% of paper and cardboard being recycled efficiently. Corrugated packaging is new packaging using recycled paper, with an average recycling rate of 89%.

Eleni Desporto, Director General of FEFCO, said: "The corrugated board industry provides environmentally friendly packaging products for sustainable development and supports the EU Green Deal targets.
