Near the Dragon Boat Festival, the State Administration of Market Supervision recently issued the No. 1 amendment to the national standard "requirements for food and cosmetics to restrict excessive packaging of commodities", focusing on moon cakes and zongzi, which are said to be typical of serious excessive packaging. In the form of mandatory national standards, the number of layers and space of packaging are further reduced, and the packaging materials and mixed packaging are limited. Accordingly, the packaging volume of zongzi will be reduced by 58%, and that of moon cakes will be reduced by 42%.

The market supervision department made it clear to limit the excessive packaging of commodities, and detailed the number of layers, space, materials, etc. of packaging, which shows the obstinacy of the problem. Speaking of the harm of over packaging, we may see it from some popular words. For example, some people have described over packaged moon cakes, zongzi and other commodities as "looking at them but not eating them", highlighting the behavior of some businesses that only pay attention to packaging, not taste and quality; There is also a saying called "people who eat don't buy, people who buy don't eat", which implies that these holiday commodities have long deviated from the connotation of traditional cultural diet and played more and more complex roles. Hundreds or thousands of moon cakes and zongzi gift boxes have not only caused huge waste, but also contributed to the extravagance, and become a tool of corruption in "human relations".

Accordingly, in recent years, the voice of "slimming down" festival food packaging from different angles in the society is also getting higher and higher. For example, from the perspective of environmental protection, the first thing to curb excessive packaging is to reduce waste, which is in line with the general trend of green and low-carbon development. More people emphasize "slimming down" through packaging to cultivate a good holiday atmosphere, so that traditional festivals such as the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid Autumn Festival can return to their cultural origins. No matter what kind of desire, we should ask: why is excessive packaging prohibited repeatedly?

On the surface, there is demand, and there is supply. Producers launch luxury packaging gift boxes to cater to the market. However, in the author's opinion, the more driving force is probably the producers' pursuit of high profits brought about by excessive packaging. Why do moon cakes and zongzi often become typical of over packaging? A possible explanation is that the "two festivals" are not only held once a year, but also the corresponding moon cakes and zongzi. In most parts of China, people only eat them before and after the "two festivals". Moreover, it is difficult to have high "added value" as food itself. In the market cycle of the last month before the festival, we should try our best to obtain more profits from the consumers of food for the festival. We should work hard on packaging, which not only caters to the "grade" demand of some consumers for commodities, but also the producers grab higher profits from it.

Liuhongsheng, director of the Department of standards and technology of the State Administration of market supervision, said recently that food is for eating. Facing the increasingly fierce market competition, enterprises should make efforts to improve the product quality, pattern and taste to meet the people's needs for a better life. This admonition is painstaking, and also indirectly confirms that the main production body should be the first to stop the excessive packaging of moon cakes, zongzi and other holiday foods. Although the relevant provisions of the new standard were officially implemented on August 1 this year, considering that the State Administration of market supervision has stated that it will organize a special rectification action against excessive food packaging, its policy direction of advocating conservation and curbing excessive packaging disorder is self-evident.

With the development of the times, people have an increasingly strong demand for quality life. "Quality" here mainly refers to product quality and service quality. Obviously, with the implementation of the new national standard, the packaging volume of various related foods will be further limited, and the "space" for producers to do "surface Kung Fu" will also be continuously compressed.
