Global printing specialist Flint Group Packaging has supported the CEFLEX Quality Recycling Project (QRP) to jointly develop and trial double-sided laminated flexible packaging containing recycled PP (rPP).
The main goal of the CEFLEX Quality Recycling Program is said to be to create a recycling program for PP without affecting the printing and converting processes in today's supply chain. To that end, the project aims to eventually recycle a higher percentage of PP in non-food contact film applications.
The project directly targets the low recycling rate of consumer households across Europe. The CEFLEX project represents a large-scale collaboration between more than 180 organisations, associations and stakeholders across Europe, making positive progress in demonstrating the potential of recyclable monolithic materials.
After a series of semi-industrial experiments to test the feasibility of rPP resin applied to packaging film in printing. The results showed that the use of post-consumer recycled packaging structures did not affect the printing or processing of single-material PP double-layer composite barrier bags for non-food applications.
