According to Vietnam's paper industry, its domestic paper industry has achieved good growth in the past five years and is expected to maintain this momentum until 2025, driven by demand for toilet paper and packaging paper.
Vietnam has successfully transformed itself from a country of import demand into an exporter of various types of paper, especially packaging paper. According to the observation of import and export data, during the period of 2015-2020, exports increased by more than 65% every year. Hoang Trung Son, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Paper and Pulp Association
According to the import and export data of authoritative institutions, the export value of Vietnam in the first seven months of this year was 1.13 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 21.6%. Among them, the United States, China, Cambodia, and Indonesia are the largest markets.
In the past 10 years, the economy has faced many difficulties. Geopolitical tensions and the COVID-19 pandemic have disrupted supply chains and caused high inflation, but Vietnam's economy is still doing well, including the paper industry. According to import and export data, the output of the paper industry has grown by more than 25% annually.
Son said that it is understood that Vietnam has established many factories with an annual production capacity of 100,000-150,000 tons in 2020 and 2021, with a total of 2 million tons per year. By the end of 2023, this volume will increase by another 1 million tons. Foreign companies have also increased their investment in the paper industry to tap the domestic market and export potential.
Son is convinced that companies are expected to face difficulties this year due to the global recession and fierce competition at home and abroad, but their long-term prospects are bright.
Investing in the paper industry is a long-term process that will take 5 to 10 years, or even 20 years.
According to the observation report of Huacheng Import and Export Data, 50% of the raw materials used in the carton industry are imported. The industry is focused on green development as it follows a circular economy. Its basic raw materials come from renewable plantations and waste paper.
According to import and export data, in developed countries, more than 70% of paper is recycled. In Vietnam, the ratio is closer to 50%. Son said Vietnam's paper industry is working hard to increase this figure.
