Customs data: US textile and clothing imports continued to decline from January to April

In the first four months of 2023, the import volume of textiles and clothing in the United States decreased by 22.05%, from $43.333 billion in the same period of 2022 to $33.78 billion. China remains the largest supplier of textiles and clothing to the United States, with a market share of 23.93%, followed by Vietnam with a share of 14.54%.

According to the latest report issued by the United States Department of Commerce, from January to April 2023, the majority of US textile imports were clothing, valued at US $25.214 billion, and the total volume of non clothing imports was US $8.567 billion. The inbound cargo volume of both departments has decreased.

Compared to the US $32.388 billion in January April 2022, the US clothing imports in January April this year decreased by 22.15%, while non clothing imports decreased by 21.72% from the US $10.945 billion in the same period last year. Customs data shows that among the top ten clothing suppliers in the United States, imports from all countries have not increased, while imports from China and Cambodia have decreased by 32.45% and 34.53%, respectively.

According to customs data, from January to April, imports from Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Honduras, Bangladesh and India declined by 29.73%, 27.33%, 25.57%, 20.61%, 17.77% and 16.59% respectively.

Customs data shows that among the top ten suppliers in the non clothing category, imports from Mexico increased by 9.07% year-on-year. During the same period, imports from other countries did not increase, while imports from China decreased by 31.53%. The inbound freight volume from Vietnam, Türkiye, Pakistan, Canada and other countries also declined. The import from South Korea decreased by 21.36%, and the import from India decreased by 26.33%.

Customs data shows that from January to April, the total import value of textiles and clothing in the United States was 33.78 billion US dollars, the total value of chemical fiber products was 17.375 billion US dollars, while the value of cotton products was 14.135 billion US dollars, the total value of wool products was 1004.673 million yuan, and the total value of silk and textile fiber products was 1264.533 million yuan.

Customs data shows that in 2022, the import of textiles and clothing from the United States continued to grow, increasing from $113.938 billion in 2021 to $132.101 billion. In 2019, the import value was $111.33 billion. (Transferred from: China Cotton Network)
