According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, recently, Indian manufacturers and waste paper suppliers were affected by the sharp decline in kraft paper exports. In 2022, the cost of recycled paper will be reduced to the lowest, ranging from Rs 17 to Rs 19 per kilogram.

Mr. Naresh Singhal, Chairman of the Indian Waste Paper Trade Association (IRPTA), said, "With the improvement of weather conditions, the market trend of demand for finished kraft paper and waste paper shows the sales direction of kraft paper after February 6."

Mr. Singhal also said that compared with the order in December 2022, Indian kraft paper mills, especially those from Gujarat and southern India, are expected to export to China at a higher price.

According to the price survey and market report of Fastmarkets' Pulp and Paper Week (P&PW) on January 18, as recycled pulp mills in Southeast Asia sought more paper fibers at the beginning of the year, the demand for waste corrugated boxes (OCC) increased in January, but the net CIF price of recycled brown pulp (RBP) remained at 340 US dollars/ton for three consecutive months. Some sellers said that the transaction price of regenerated brown pulp was high in January, and the CIF price for China rose slightly to 360-340 US dollars/ton. However, most sellers said that the CIF price for China remained unchanged at US $340/ton.

China has decided to exempt the standard MFN tariff of 5-6% on these grades of imported products before the end of this year.

"In the past 20 days, the price of kraft paper waste paper recycled in northern India has increased by about 2500 rupees per ton, especially in western Uttar Pradesh and northern Akendra. Kraft paper factory has announced the increase of 1 rupee per kilogram on January 31, 2023. The price of kraft waste paper recycled by paper mills in Bangalore and surrounding areas is currently 17 rupees per kilogram.

Mr. Singhal added: "As you know, the price of imported waste cardboard continues to rise. I would also like to share some information from the members of our association, that is, the price of imported European waste cardboard of 95/5 quality seems to be about 15 US dollars higher than before.

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, buyers and sellers of recycled brown pulp (RBP) told pulp and paper week (P&PW) that business in Southeast Asian countries was "better", and it was expected that China would return a few months after the closure. With the lifting of restrictions, the economy is expected to recover again.
