2023-03-27

On the morning of the 23rd, with the sound of a siren, 74 containers loaded with imported goods from international trade such as Brazilian pulp and Pakistani zinc concentrate slowly departed from Qinzhou Railway Container Center Station in Guangxi on a sea-rail intermodal train and headed for Chengxiang Station in Sichuan. By now, the number of sea-rail intermodal trains operating in the new land sea corridor in the west has exceeded 25000.

According to Liu Fuming, the operation director of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Intermodal Transportation Company, this train is expected to arrive at Chengxiang Station in Sichuan in 2-3 days, and the imported goods carried by international trade will be distributed to Sichuan, Chongqing, and other western regions. The number of trains opened has exceeded 25000, marking a new stage of high-quality development in the construction of the new land sea channel in the west, and benefiting the development of international trade.

The new land and sea corridor in the west connects the "Silk Road Economic Belt" to the north and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" to the south, playing a role in connecting the "Belt" and "One Road". In recent years, Guangxi, Chongqing, and other places have actively participated in the construction of a new land sea corridor in the western region, and the new corridor sea rail intermodal trains have achieved a leap from 0 to 25000. The reporter learned from Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd. that the number of trains increased 49 times from 178 in 2017 to 8820 in 2022.

With the continuous opening of sea rail intermodal train routes, the radiation scope of the new land sea channel in the west has expanded to 115 stations in 61 cities in 17 provinces, achieving full coverage in 12 provinces, regions, and cities in the west, and extending to the central region. Liu Fuming introduced that the new land and sea corridor in the west has been normalized to connect with the China Europe (Asia) train, with goods from the south going north and exporting to Europe, and goods from the north going south and exporting to ASEAN countries, promoting economic and trade exchanges with countries along the line.

"After several years of cultivation, the new land sea channel in the western region has become a major economic channel that connects the river to the sea and unblocks the dual circulation of domestic and international trade," said Zhou Wei, an operation planner of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Intermodal Transport Company. Since this year, 8756 standard boxes of Chinese made products such as new energy vehicles (auto parts), generators, and sodium sulfate have been exported to various parts of the world on new channel trains; Foreign products such as shortening, rice, copper concentrate, and other 4726 TEUs enter China and are sold to the central and western regions by train.

Benefiting from significant opportunities such as the implementation of the new land and sea corridor in the western region and RCEP, the Beibu Gulf Port has opened a total of 47 international trade routes, including 36 routes for ASEAN and RCEP member countries. The logistics network covers 393 ports in 119 countries and regions, covering 740 categories.
