Myanmar will increase imports of electric vehicles and motorcycles and build charging stations

2021-07-06

The Burmese media learned from the State Management Committee of Myanmar that the State Management Committee plans to increase the import volume of electric vehicles, electric vehicles and motorcycles, and in response to this, it is arranging to review the import tax rate. At the same time, the State Management Commission plans to build charging stations through the government's cooperation with private enterprises.

It is reported that from the data point of view, although Myanmar has also been approved for import of electric vehicles in the past, the import volume has not been high. On June 9, the relevant departments of the State Management Commission held a consultation meeting for this purpose.

During the meeting, consultations were held on opening motorcycle sales stores and sales centers, and setting quality standards for imported electric vehicles and motorcycles.

It is reported that the purpose of promoting the import of electric vehicles and motorcycles is to reduce domestic traditional energy use, reduce carbon emissions, reduce environmental pollution, and make major cities cleaner and environmentally friendly.

At the same time, from May 8th to 13th, the State Management Commission suspended the import of motorcycles through border ports for 6 days, and strictly inspected unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles.
