Bahlil Lahadalia, the Minister of Investment and the head of the Investment Coordination Committee (BKPM) of Indonesia, said that as the government plans to develop electric vehicles in the country, Indonesia is expected to become the world's largest battery manufacturer. Lahadali pointed out in a webinar on the prospects of the nation’s battery industry: “I think it’s time for Indonesia to become the world’s largest participant. Industrialized countries."
The official pointed out that Indonesia is known for its abundant natural resources, including timber, gold, fish and coal, but this does not provide added value to the country, as some of them are exported in the form of raw materials. And 25% of the world’s nickel reserves were discovered in Indonesia and should be used for the development of batteries, the main component of electric vehicles.
