In April next year, Norway may be the first to achieve 100% electric car sales

2021-09-27

Norway has always been a leader in global electric vehicle sales. The country’s electric vehicle market share has increased month by month. At the same time, the share of fuel vehicles in the new car market has gradually decreased, and the speed has almost exceeded people’s expectations. This also makes Norway plan to stop selling new fuel vehicles in 2025, a goal that is far ahead of other countries.

However, fuel vehicles may not last that long in Norway. According to an analysis published by the magazine "Motor" of the Norwegian Automobile Federation (Norwegian Automobile Federation), the sales of Norwegian fuel vehicles continue to decline. It is expected that in April 2022, Norway will usher in the last fuel vehicle. Sales.

The Norwegian Road Transport Commission publishes monthly sales figures for all cars sold nationwide, including new car sales for each power system. Recent statistics show that the sales of non-electrified models accounted for less than 10% of new car sales in Norway, which was lower than the approximately 21% in the same period last year.

If the trend of the past few years continues, then this trend line will reach zero in April 2022, which is much earlier than the 2025 target set by Norway. However, as mentioned in the "Motor" article, the last fuel car may not be sold in April 2022, because not every market segment has a good alternative to electric vehicles, there are always some exception.

However, since the beginning of this year, 14 of the 15 best-selling cars in Norway are pure electric vehicles, and the other RAV4 Prime is a plug-in hybrid vehicle, which ranks second in sales; the 16th is Toyota Corolla Hybrid; it was not until 38th that a car without an electric engine-Volkswagen Tiguan diesel car appeared.

The main reason for Norway's leadership in electrification transformation is the preferential taxation of electric vehicles. In Norway, petrol vehicles need to pay a large tax, while electric vehicles do not need to pay this tax. Therefore, compared with price-competitive fuel vehicles, consumers can buy better electric vehicles at any price. Therefore, sales of electric vehicles in Norway have been on the rise, even though electric vehicles have even lost some benefits in recent years. Free parking and tolls are waived again.

Another reason is that the diversity and selectivity of electric vehicles have increased, and the general cultural tendency of electric vehicles is also playing a role. With the obsolescence of fuel vehicles becoming an established fact, no one wants to be dragged down by a car that may not be able to refuel in 10 years. After all, in Norway, some gas stations are already replacing gas pumps with charging piles.
