According to foreign media reports, on October 13, local time, Honda Motor Company of Japan stated that the company will launch its first electric car to the Chinese market next spring.
According to the report, Honda Motor Company will accelerate its electrification process in the world's largest automobile market, the Chinese market, starting with an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Honda said that all new models launched in China after 2030 will be electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles. In April of this year, Honda Motor Company stated that by 2040, all the cars the company launched globally will be electric vehicles or fuel cell vehicles. The electric SUV model launched in China is regarded as the basis for the company's shift to electric products.
It is reported that the first electric vehicle SUV models launched in the Chinese market will be divided into two types, e: NS1 and e: NP1, which will be introduced to the market by Dongfeng Honda and Guangqi Honda respectively in the spring of 2022. Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda plan to build new pure electric vehicle assembly plants, which are expected to start production in 2024. Honda Motor proposed that it will launch 10 pure electric models in China in the next five years.
According to analysts from Japanese consulting firm Carnorama, a firm foothold in China is a prerequisite for Honda to achieve its 2040 carbon neutral goal. He added: “This is the best plan for Honda to expand the development of electric vehicles.” He pointed out that although Honda has an alliance with the American car giant General Motors, China is a more advanced electric vehicle market.
