Vietnamese media reported on June 7 that the port cargo throughput of Quang Ninh province in Vietnam has maintained a good growth momentum, with an average growth rate of over 10% since the beginning of the year. This achievement is due to Quang Ninh province's efforts to increase investment in port infrastructure and improve service quality.

According to the assessment of Vietnam's Ministry of Transport, Quang Ninh Province has many significant advantages in marine economic development, including a 250-kilometer coastline and many deep-water ports. In particular, the province is also located in the "two corridors and one circle" cooperation area, which is the gateway connecting ASEAN and China, and has shipping routes connecting to the international arena. The cargo throughput of Quang Ninh port accounts for more than 40% of the total cargo and passenger throughput in the northern region.

With the above advantages, Quang Ninh Province has positioned the marine economy as the main driving force in the development of a service-industrial economy. To achieve this goal, Quang Ninh Province issued Resolution No. 15-NQ/TƯ in 2019 on the development plan for ports and port services in the province.

According to the resolution, Quang Ninh Province will strive to achieve an average annual growth rate of port throughput of 17.5% in the period from 2019 to 2025. In the period 2026-2030, the average annual growth rate of port throughput will reach 18.5% and increase investment in port infrastructure. By 2045, promote port development and promote the construction of facility structures in the direction of synchronization, modernization, and increased application of science and technology in management and development.

According to statistics, from 2019 to 2021, the average annual cargo throughput of Quang Ninh ports exceeded 104 million tons; the total revenue from port services reached nearly VND 7.5 trillion, with an average annual growth rate of 16.6%.

In particular, Quang Ninh province has managed to overcome obstacles in planning and investment in transport infrastructure. At present, 13 ports in the province have been included in the Vietnam Seaport System Development Master Plan for the period 2021-2030 and the outlook for 2050. In addition, the province has focused on mobilizing and attracting various resources, mainly extra-budgetary resources, for the development of seaport facilities structures, terminals and transport infrastructure connecting the seaports.

Leaders of the Quang Ninh Maritime and Port Authority revealed that in order to promote the development of the port, the bureau will continue to carry out administrative reforms to create conditions for ship owners, shipbuilders and ships to enter Quang Ninh Port with confidence. Functional departments further maintain coordination to ensure safety and order, and create convenient conditions for receiving and dispatching goods at the port. Only in this way can the port advantages of Quang Ninh be fully utilized and the industry becomes a pillar service industry in the economic structure of the province.
