2022-08-05

The first train from Sichuan to cross the Caspian Sea back to Chengdu arrived at the Chengdu (Shuangliu) air-rail international intermodal port on the 2nd. 50 large cabinets, full of petroleum asphalt, set out from the Middle East, crossed the Caspian Sea, crossed the Tianshan Mountains, entered through the Xinjiang Horgos Port, and arrived in Chengdu Shuangliu.

"This batch of asphalt comes from the Middle East and is mainly used as raw materials for local construction enterprises in Sichuan." The relevant person in charge of Chengdu Airport Modern Service Industry Development Co., Ltd. told reporters that on July 21, this batch of goods departed from Anzari Port in the Middle East. First cross the Caspian Sea by boat, arrive at Aktau Port in Kazakhstan, and then transfer to railway transportation. The train enters from Horgos Port in Xinjiang, crosses the ocean and mountains, and goes all the way to Chengdu Shuangliu.

This is the first international train from Sichuan to cross the Caspian Sea to Chengdu. The Caspian Sea is the largest lake in the world, located at the border between Europe and Asia. Crossing the Caspian Sea allows countries in the Middle East to take a "shortcut", avoiding the detour by sea.

"In the past, goods imported into the Middle East generally took the Indian Ocean-Melaka-South China Sea route, which may take about a month." The above-mentioned person in charge said that the opening of this new route across the Caspian Sea can save two-thirds of the transportation time for enterprises. It provides a new logistics channel guarantee for the raw material procurement of enterprises, and saves the cost of logistics and transportation.

On the same day, Chengdu Airport City Development Group and Xinjiang International Land Port Group signed a cooperation agreement online to jointly establish a comprehensive strategic partnership, promote the cooperation of air-railway and high-sea multimodal transport, and provide raw material procurement, finished product sales, Support foreign trade, financial and other services, promote the connection between logistics and industry upstream and downstream, and maintain the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain.

"On the one hand, Shuangliu joins hands with Xinjiang to promote the internal circulation of trade; on the other hand, sea-rail combined transport promotes the international external circulation." Zheng Shuangli, deputy general manager of Chengdu Airport Modern Service Industry Development Co., Ltd. believes that crossing the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea not only facilitates coastal countries, but also It can also shorten the transportation time and cost of goods in neighboring countries by means of sea-rail combined transportation, and further extend to West Asia, Central Asia and the hinterland of Europe.

In addition, it is understood that the Chengdu (Shuangliu) International Intermodal Port will be expanded soon, and will add 3 gantry cranes to the second cargo line, increasing the annual operating capacity by 100,000 TEUs. By then, the annual arrival and dispatch capacity of the intermodal port will reach 5 million tons and 200,000 TEUs.

Since its operation on September 27, 2021, the Chengdu (Shuangliu) air-rail international intermodal port has been connected to 10 foreign countries including Laos, Vietnam, and Russia. It is estimated that by 2025, the demand for international trains in Chengdu (Shuangliu) Air-Railway International Port will reach 1,700.
