Uzbekistan, Iran, Turkmenistan agree to simplify international trade freight

2022-08-26

Ukrainian Transport Minister Makhkamov went to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, to attend the International Transport Conference on August 15-16, and held separate meetings with the Director of the Turkish Transport Agency Chakiyev and the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Construction Qassimi. The meeting discussed the strengthening of cooperation in international trade and goods transportation.

During the meeting with the Turkish side, the two sides agreed to simplify the procedures for Uzbek drivers to obtain Turkmenistan visas and reduce road freight when delivering goods to Turkey along the "Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran" international transport corridor.

During the meeting with the Iranian side, the two sides agreed to reduce international road freight and organize pilot shipments from Iran’s Chabahar port to Uzbekistan, as well as to China via Uzbekistan.

Because it is a double landlocked country, the Uzbek government attaches great importance to the issue of international trade and freight. President Mirziyoyev has instructed the Ukrainian Ministry of Transport to formulate optimal export routes, reduce transportation costs, and solve the problem of transporting more export goods to Europe. Uzbekistan is also actively discussing with Pakistan and Turkmenistan the establishment of a joint motor transport company.
